A practical reference on LC-MS/MS: what it is, how it behaves, what the literature reports, and where the honest uncertainties sit.
Reviewed 2026-01-10. Anything still debated is marked as such rather than presented as settled.
Structural features distinguish the molecule from earlier secretagogues. An alpha-aminoisobutyric acid residue near the N-terminus and a D-naphthylalanine substitution increase receptor affinity, while C-terminal amidation improves resistance to exopeptidases. These modifications are associated with reduced stimulation of appetite and of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis compared with hexarelin or growth hormone releasing peptide-6. Whether the same profile applies at every dose level studied is a matter of ongoing investigation rather than settled consensus.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Its sequence incorporates non-natural residues, which slows enzymatic breakdown relative to short native peptides. In laboratory and early clinical work the compound is described as a selective growth hormone secretagogue because it raises growth hormone with comparatively little effect on other pituitary outputs. The degree to which that selectivity holds across species and dosing regimens remains an open question in the published literature.
Signal transduction begins when the peptide binds GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs. The receptor couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C, which cleaves phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate into inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Inositol trisphosphate releases calcium from intracellular stores, and the resulting rise in cytosolic calcium drives growth hormone vesicle fusion. Concurrent Gs coupling and cyclic AMP elevation have also been reported, and the relative contribution of each arm to the overall secretory response is not fully settled.
Compared with other secretagogues such as GHRP-2, GHRP-6, and hexarelin, ipamorelin is described as more selective. Published animal work reports little or no increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, or prolactin at doses that release growth hormone. This selectivity is the property most often cited in the research literature. Whether the same profile holds across species and dosing schedules remains an open question, since human data are limited and come largely from small studies.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, and its molecular mass is approximately 711.9 daltons. The compound was described in the late 1990s by researchers seeking molecules that release growth hormone with fewer side effects than earlier secretagogues. It is a laboratory and research compound, not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions.

At the receptor level, ipamorelin binds GHS-R1a and triggers signaling through Gq-coupled pathways. Activation leads to calcium release and downstream effects in pituitary somatotroph cells. These events promote the release of growth hormone into circulation. The response depends on the presence of the receptor and on the physiological state of the animal or tissue studied. Because the receptor is also found in other tissues, effects beyond the pituitary have been examined in laboratory models, though the extent of those effects remains an area of ongoing study.
One distinguishing feature reported in animal studies is selectivity. Ipamorelin stimulated growth hormone release with limited elevation of adrenocorticotropic hormone or cortisol compared with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6. This pattern has been described as more selective for the growth hormone axis. The finding comes mainly from preclinical work, and the degree to which it holds across species and doses is not fully settled. Reports also describe effects on gastric motility in animal models, suggesting activity outside the pituitary, though the clinical relevance of this observation is uncertain.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts on the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also known as the ghrelin receptor. Its sequence contains five amino acid residues, including a non-natural residue that increases stability against enzymatic breakdown. The compound was developed in the 1990s as part of research into small peptides that stimulate pituitary hormone release. Unlike larger protein hormones, it can be produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and characterized by standard analytical methods.
In plants and some prokaryotes, glucose is a product of photosynthesis. Glucose is also formed by the breakdown of polymeric forms of glucose like glycogen (in animals and mushrooms) or starch (in plants). The cleavage of glycogen is termed glycogenolysis, the cleavage of starch is called starch degradation. The metabolic pathway that begins with molecules containing two to four carbon atoms (C) and ends in the glucose molecule containing six carbon atoms is called gluconeogenesis and occurs in all living organisms. The smaller starting materials are the result of other metabolic pathways. Ultimately almost all biomolecules come from the assimilation of carbon dioxide in plants and microbes during photosynthesis. The free energy of formation of α-d-glucose is 917.2 kilojoules per mole. In humans, gluconeogenesis occurs in the liver and kidney, but also in other cell types. In the liver about 150 g (5.3 oz) of glycogen are stored, in skeletal muscle about 250 g (8.8 oz). However, the glucose released in muscle cells upon cleavage of the glycogen can not be delivered to the circulation because glucose is phosphorylated by the hexokinase, and a glucose-6-phosphatase is not expressed to remove the phosphate group. Unlike for glucose, there is no transport protein for glucose-6-phosphate. Gluconeogenesis allows the organism to build up glucose from other metabolites, including lactate or certain amino acids, while consuming energy. The renal tubular cells can also produce glucose. Glucose also can be found outside of living organisms in the ambient environment.
where the creatinine and blood urea nitrogen concentrations are both in mg/dL. The albumin concentration is in g/dL. These MDRD equations are to be used only if the laboratory has NOT calibrated its serum creatinine measurements to isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS). When IDMS-calibrated serum creatinine is used (which is about 6% lower), the above equations should be multiplied by 175/186 or by 0.94086. Since these formulae do not adjust for body size, results are given in units of mL/min per 1.73 m2, 1.73 m2 being the estimated body surface area of an adult with a mass of 63 kg and a height of 1.7 m.
=== BASF refounded (1952) === On 28 July 1948, an explosion occurred at a BASF site in Ludwigshafen, killing 207 people and injuring 3818. In 1952, BASF was refounded under its name following the efforts of former Nazi Party member Carl Wurster, who served in Nazi Germany as Wehrwirtschaftsführer (war economy leader). With the German economic miracle in the 1950s, BASF added synthetics such as nylon to its product range. BASF developed Polystyrene in the 1930s and invented Styropor in 1951.
Ants and their larvae are eaten in different parts of the world. The eggs of two species of ants are used in Mexican escamoles. They are considered a form of insect caviar and can sell for as much as US$50 per kg going up to US$200 per kg (as of 2006) because they are seasonal and hard to find. In the Colombian department of Santander, hormigas culonas (roughly interpreted as "large-bottomed ants") Atta laevigata are toasted alive and eaten. In areas of India, and throughout Burma and Thailand, a paste of the green weaver ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) is served as a condiment with curry. Weaver ant eggs and larvae, as well as the ants, may be used in a Thai salad, yam (Thai: ยำ), in a dish called yam khai mot daeng (Thai: ยำไข่มดแดง) or red ant egg salad, a dish that comes from the Issan or north-eastern region of Thailand. Saville-Kent, in the Naturalist in Australia wrote "Beauty, in the case of the green ant, is more than skin-deep. Their attractive, almost sweetmeat-like translucency possibly invited the first essays at their consumption by the human species". Mashed up in water, after the manner of lemon squash, "these ants form a pleasant acid drink which is held in high favor by the natives of North Queensland, and is even appreciated by many European palates". Ants or their pupae are used as starters for yogurt making in parts of Bulgaria and Turkey. In his First Summer in the Sierra, John Muir notes that the Digger Indians of California ate the tickling, acid gasters of the large jet-black carpenter ants.
=== Cardiac disease === Ciclosporin has been used experimentally to treat cardiac hypertrophy (an increase in cell volume). Inappropriate opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) manifests in ischemia (blood flow restriction to tissue) and reperfusion injury (damage occurring after ischemia when blood flow returns to tissue), after myocardial infarction (heart attack) and when mutations in mitochondrial DNA polymerase occur. The heart attempts to compensate for disease state by increasing the intracellular Ca2+ to increase the contractility cycling rates. Constitutively high levels of mitochondrial Ca2+ cause inappropriate MPTP opening leading to a decrease in the cardiac range of function, leading to cardiac hypertrophy as an attempt to compensate for the problem. Cyclosporin A has been shown to decrease cardiac hypertrophy by affecting cardiac myocytes in many ways. Cyclosporin A binds to cyclophilin D to block the opening of MPTP, and thus decreases the release of protein cytochrome C, which can cause programmed cell death. CypD is a protein within the MPTP that acts as a gate; binding by cyclosporin A decreases the amount of inappropriate opening of MPTP, which decreases the intramitochondrial Ca2+. Decreasing intramitochondrial Ca2+ allows for reversal of cardiac hypertrophy caused in the original cardiac response. Decreasing the release of cytochrome C caused decreased cell death during injury and disease. Cyclosporin A also inhibits the phosphatase calcineurin pathway (14).

The International Cocoa Initiative involving major cocoa manufacturers established the Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System to monitor thousands of farms in Ghana and Ivory Coast for child labor conditions, but the program reached less than 20% of the child laborers. In April 2018, the Cocoa Barometer report stated: "Not a single company or government is anywhere near reaching the sector-wide objective of the elimination of child labor, and not even near their commitments of a 70% reduction of child labor by 2020". They cited persistent poverty, the absence of schools, increasing world cocoa demand, more intensive farming of cocoa, and continued exploitation of child labor.
== Role of crotonyl-CoA in transcription == Post-translational modification of histones either by acetylation or crotonylation is important for the active transcription of genes. Histone crotonylation is regulated by the concentration of crotonyl-CoA which can change based on environmental cell conditions or genetic factors.
These relations between penis size and attractiveness have therefore led to frequently emphasized associations between masculinity and penis size in popular media. This has led to a social bias existing around penis size with larger penises being preferred and having higher social status. This is reflected in the association between believed sexual prowess and penis size and the social judgement of penis size in relation to 'manhood'.

== Reconstitution == The ILEA was reformed by the Local Government Act 1985 which reconstituted it as a standalone body corporate and a directly elected authority. The replacement body came into existence before the abolition of the special committee of the GLC and was known as the Inner London Interim Education Authority until it came into its powers on 1 April 1986. In the May 1986 elections, each Inner London Parliamentary constituency elected two members of the ILEA. Labour won easily.

Two other militiamen were identified as supporters of Daniela Carneiro's campaign. One of them is Cristiano de Oliveira Gouveia, known as Babu, who in a video posted on a social network appears with a sticker displaying Daniela's number. In addition, Babu appears on stage at a rally alongside Daniela and other candidates during the October elections. The other is Eduardo Araújo, a Belford Roxo councilor who was suspended after being appointed municipal secretary of Sustainable Energy of Belford Roxo. Eduardo participated in campaign motorcades with Daniela. The Public Prosecutor's Office says he was responsible for preventing the arrest of other members of the gang. Daniela Carneiro denied such involvement, stating that she does not condone "any illicit act" and that it is up to the courts to "judge and punish"; she also stated that she received support from numerous voters from various municipalities during her campaign. Deputy Marcelo Freixo, who gained notoriety by presiding over the CPI das Milícias in Rio de Janeiro, was appointed president of Embratur, an agency subordinate to the Ministry of Tourism. When questioned about the relationship, Freixo said that "it was up to her [Daniela] to speak about it" and that "my relationship with her is very recent, but very good and full of dialogue".

Both molecules activate the same receptor, GHSR-1a, but they share little sequence identity. Ghrelin is a 28-amino-acid hormone carrying a distinctive acyl modification, whereas ipamorelin is a short synthetic peptide. The shared target explains overlapping endocrine effects, while the different structures account for differences in metabolic stability and receptor selectivity.
Early animal and human studies reported growth hormone release at levels that produced small changes in cortisol, prolactin and adrenocorticotropic hormone. That contrast with older secretagogues gave rise to the selectivity label. The observation is consistent across several reports but rests on a limited number of small studies.
Plasma peptidases cleave the molecule into smaller fragments, and reported half-lives in human studies are on the order of a couple of hours. The identity and activity of individual breakdown products have not been fully mapped. Questions about tissue-level clearance remain open.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that stimulates growth hormone release by activating the ghrelin receptor. It is handled as a research tool rather than as a licensed therapeutic product. Its short chain length makes it comparatively simple to synthesize and analyze.
